Lee's Summit is a small town in the Ozarks region of Missouri. It is located east of Springfield and west of St. Peters, on the banks of the River Lee. The population was 7,890 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in Lee's Summit was John Sibley in 1839. He founded a log cabin on an elevation above the present day town line. The first post office was established in 1841, and the town name was changed to Lee in 1851 after Henry Lee, a general during the American Civil War who died at Gettysburg. Non-Indigenous peoples have inhabited this area for thousands of years; Potawatomi Indians were known to live near by from as early as 1795 until their Removal during the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Jesuit missionaries began arriving in Missouri in 1795, and soonbeginning missionary work among local tribes such as the Potawatomis and Shawnees. In 1800, Father Samuel Morse arrived with his students at Independence Rock to preach a new gospel to Native Americans living around what is now Springfield County while surveying land for a future mission station (the original site would later be renamed Springfield). In 1819, John Sibley married Ann Beall from nearby Jacksonville Township and started construction on what would become one of his largest businesses: A store and tannery called "Sibley's Store." The business prospered until 1840 when it burned down due to an accidental fire! Ann Sibley continued running her grocery business until her death in 1865; her son John Fenton operated it for many years until its sale to Wm Henson in 1907. Many residents throughout history have been associated with Lee’s Summit- including four Governors of Missouri: James Kossuth (1863-1865), Salmon Peevey (1883-1885), Benjamin Harrison (1901-1903), and Woodrow Wilson (1913-1920). The first high school opened inLee's Summit on October 14th 1870 under then Superintendent George Eaton; it became known as Central High School before being renamed againin 1889 when it became Eastern High School. Its current name comes from former Principal Driscoll who donated $25 towards its construction which funded much needed renovations that occurred between 1915 & 1917 making EastHigh School one of only two high schools still existing on Orchard Street today! In 1916 Eastern HS also became home to Missouri Valley College which offered college level coursework leading up to Normal University which opened there 3 years later! ThanksMissouriValleyCollege!!!

Lee's Summit is a town in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The town was named for General James Lee who served as commanding general of Union forces during the American Civil War and also served as president of the Confederate States of America. The first settlers in Lee's Summit were farmers and their families who arrived in 1836. By 1838, there were six stores and two churches in the community which had a total population of thirty-six. In 1840, seven more stores opened up and by 1860 there were thirteen businesses operating in Lee's Summit. The early days of Lee's Summit saw great growth due to its location on the main road connecting St Joseph with other major cities in the region. This corridor helped to spur economic development which led to increased tourism and job creation throughout the town over time. As St Joseph grew into an important city on the Great Lakes Region, it became necessary for people living within reasonable distance of downtown to establish themselves as well. This led to increased demand for goods and services from those located outside of town center. As a result, businesses began moving out of Lee's Summit beginning around 1870 while employment opportunities dwindled throughout much of this decade thanks to technological advancements that took place at this time such as railroads which made transportation costs much lower than they had been before. An increase in immigration during this period also contributed to these trends as more people looking for better opportunities began arriving in St Joseph from all over Missouri and Illinoisugarland County via steamboats or stagecoaches between Jefferson Cityand Carbondale . In 1881, when another railroad came through town allowing business owners access to Interstate 65 which greatly expanded travel options withinSt Josephand surrounding counties Additionally jobs available on I-65 led many residents shifting away from agriculture towards new industrial areas such as manufacturing and service sector jobs during this time period However continuing importance placed upon agricultural production has resulted in recent years seeing consistent growth within local food markets
