In addition to its retailsection - home to such brands as Macy's, JCPenney and Sears - Lee's Summit also contains a number of factories that have helped contribute to its economic stability over the years: K-Mart remains one of only four anchors remaining from when it first opened its doors here; First National Bank & Trust Company built a new headquarters complex; and Phelps Dodge Agnew Chemical Co., later Phillips Petroleum Co., manufactured products here until 2002 before moving their plant north into Stroudsburg Township. Today only 2% (of total jobs) are located within downtown Lee’s Summit – but that percentage includes most manufacturing jobs which have left since then because prices for raw materials have soared relative to wages throughout much of North America due largely to China’s slowdown However many residents continue enjoy easy access via I-435 or Interstate 44 which runs through town center making it possible for shoppers no matter what time of day or night they visit While some people may see this clustering around large businesses as negative it actually helps keep things cohesive because these businesses maintain social contact with their employees which helps keep morale high among all employees

In 1865, however, four local residents submitted a petition to make Lee's Summit an incorporated town under the laws of Missouri. The vote was 12-1 in favor of incorporation and Lee's Summit became an official part of the state with this designation.
