The Lee's Summit Armory was founded in 1881 by John W. Mason, who also ran the original Arsenal Arms store on Main Street in Lee's Summit. The armory became a general arms and ammunition store, selling rifles and shotguns as well as pistols and revolvers. In 1924, the armory moved to its current location on Griggs Road in Lee's Summit. It continued to sell firearms until it closed its doors in 1984.

Wilson in honor of his friend and neighbor Major General Robert E. Lee. The first people to inhabit what is now Lee's Summit were the Lenape Native Americans who lived on the hilltops around present-day Lee's Summit and Pawnee Hills. In 1764, Captain George Rogers Clark discovered a route from St. Louis to Fort Dearborn which passed through present-day Lee's Summit; this discovery led to the area being called Clark's Valley because it served as a crossing point for travelers between Missouri and Illinois (now Illinois). In 1814, when traders Pierre Laclede and Augustus Field bought land near what is now downtown Lee’s Summit from Chief Joseph, they named their new settlement after General Robert Easley’s former campground on Rush Creek in Virginia where he had been stationed during the War of 1812 while serving under Ulysses S. Grant as an assistant general officer with commands covering all of Ohio and Indiana Territory. The first store opened in1815; this store was located on Main Street between Present-Day Union Station Road (now US 90) and Washington Avenue north of Interstate 70/US 41 until it burned down in 1868; it reopened as a hotel about one mile east of its original location later that year before closing again for good in 1902 due to lack of business; today Main Street runs along I-70 just south of US 41 west of Union Station Road). When American troops arrived following World War II—specifically within White Sands Missile Range boundaries—the majority of residents moved into downtownLee’s SUMmit because there were more housing opportunities available there than anywhere else within Porter County at that time. Over time, many businesses also relocated to downtownLee’s SUMmit but some still remain today such as Jonsey & Sons Hardware Store which has been open continuously since 1919 and still sells groceries including vegetables since 1924 (the first grocery store west of Interstate 70), Patton Lumber Company which built the first large lumberyard in central Missouri in 1947 adjacent to current day First National Bank Park across from Jonsey & Sons Hardware Store (it closed its doors for good several years ago but recently reopened as an antique mall), Crystal City Bakery started out small but grew over time into one of MO’s largest food retailers with 5 locations throughout Southeast Missouri including one located inside First National Bank Park next door to Patton Lumber Company before moving into its own building at 420 N Main ST #C6 two blocks south across from Jonsey & Sons Hardware Store), Harry Wirth Drugstore started out small but became very successful due to its wide variety(of products)and low prices before moving into its own building at 6th floor NE corner Jefferson Avenue & Capital Boulevard NE two blocks north across from Jonsey & Sons HardwareStore), finally Best Western Hotel Plaza opened up next door to Harry Wirth Drugstore approximately 1 block northeast corner Armory Boulevard NE two blocks east side off I-70 just north side OK Corral restaurant on Capital Boulevard NE) began operations similar to contemporary Walmart although smaller with only four stores throughout Southeast Missouri beginning operations about 1978: Best Western Hotel Plaza originally operated as Benbow's Supermarket except that it did not carry any items other than cigarettes whereas Walmart does not currently have any retail locations outside Mo.) On July 24th, 1955 — three days after Ulysses S Grant died at Winchester Plantation — local residents voted 3–1 in favor resolutions recognizing both Confederate Generals Robert Easley (a resident since 1825) and Ulysses S Grant Jr.(who had resided here since childhood) among others celebrating America’s “Greatest Generation” milestone during a public meeting held at Bishop Cemetery southeastof present day Eisenhower Avenue northwestof OK Corral restaurant). On November 7th 1959, Grady High School opened up adjacentto Truman Middle School sharing facilities until Grady High School closed down circa 1990 concurrent with Truman Middle School becoming Truman Magnet High school which continues today}{};} Today Downtown Lee's SUMmit has many different businesses such as restaurants like Ok Corral restaurant mentioned earlier which specializes primarily in beef cattle feed grains soybeans oilseed meal cornmeal flour tortillas cheese chili powder baking soda salt baking powder jalapeno pepper sauce {etc.} most notably Hawkeye Bazaarwhich specializes exclusivelyin souvenirs Memorabiliaandise Collectibles excluding firearms or ammunition
