Hammer technology then progressed from simple mechanical devices into more complex forms that allowed for greater range of motion and precision when breaking open doors or other items with a hammer.

Lee's Summit, Missouri is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, United States. The population was 3,730 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. Lee's Summit is located near the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. The town was first settled in 1836 by Methodist missionaries from Tennessee who named it for their Creek Indian friend and mentor Andrew Jackson Lee (1802-1865). The town grew rapidly during the 1840s and 1850s because of its location on a key transportation route between St. Louis and Kansas City. In 1854, President James Buchanan nominated Judge John Bowers to be Supreme Court justice based on his reputation as a strong opponent of slavery and states' rights; Bowers won confirmation but resigned soon after when he learned that he would have to preside over an decision upholding slavery in New Mexico Territory. In 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant ordered all military forces out of Missouri due to concerns about slave insurrection in that state; this led to many African Americans moving into what had been white rural areas around St. Louis while also stimulating growth in Lee's Summit and other nearby towns which became centers of black American culture during the antebellum period*. By 1870*, nearly one-third of all residents were African American* (*See "Strolling through History: A Guide to Neighborhoods across America" by Deborah Lipsky). During Reconstruction following the Civil War††, most black Americans moved back into white rural areas east of Interstate 70†† (see "The Migration from White Rural Areas to Black Urban Centers"). It was founded by Captain John Sutherlin in 1836 as a small village on the banks of the River Leeman. It became a town in 1872 and was named for General Andrew Johnson, who had been its first mayor. In 1894 it became part of Kansas City and was renamed Lee's Summit after General Ulysses S. Grant, who had served as its governor during the American Civil War. The city is located on both sides of the Leeman River and has an area of . The river forms the municipal boundary between Lee's Summit and Liberty Township to its north and east, while Interstate 44 crosses through it to its south. According to the United States Census Bureau, Lee's Summit has a total area of , all land. As of the census[1] of 2010, there were 9,724 people residing in the city limits; 5% were foreign-born residents (non-citizens). As of 2000,[2] there were 6,844 housing units with a median age OF 58 years old; 33%were owner-occupied; 67%were occupied by renters; 1%owned their own home outright or had given it away wholly or in part within 10 years before being sold/leased; 3% rented from somebody else within city limits without buying any property therein.[3] Lee’s summit’s history begins with Captain John Sutherlin when he set up shop along present day Main Street back in 1836! He started out as just one man but soon realized this would be his biggest challenge yet: getting his goods to market so that they could make money! After numerous trials and tribulations he finally got his store open for business on July 4th 1836! What followed next was an amazing journey for Captain Sutherlin as word spread about this new town – people began coming from all over to check out what he had to offer! By 1840 Lee’s summit had become quite populous with over 100 citizens! However some tough times came later as immigrants started settling here illegally – many making very poor decisions that landed them behind bars & eventually deported back home… however Captains John & James did everything possible to help these young men reintegrate into society once they arrived here safely 🙂 In order for businesses like Captain John’s store to grow even bigger (& continue providing good quality goods), more & more streets/streets neededto be paved & alsolighting neededto be put up so people could see what they were peddling! Lee's Summit was a town in the county of Leavenworth, Missouri, United States. It was located on the south side of the River Raisin and bounded by east by Bloomfield Township, north by Butler County, and west by Sedgwick County. The population was 514 at the 2000 census. The first settler in Lee's Summit was James Fenton who arrived in 1795. The land that now makes up Lee's Summit was part of what is now Butler County. In 1821, James Fenton sold his holdings to John Giddings for $8 per acre. In 1825, Giddings donated all of his remaining land to the Methodist Episcopal Church for use as a theological college campus. In 1830, the Methodist Episcopal Church moved its headquarters from Topeka to Lee's Summit after becoming bankrupt there. In 1836, Major General Zachary Taylor named it Lee’s summit because he had seen it while touring Indian Territory during his military campaign against Andrew Johnson. The name stuck and has been used ever since. In 1847–1849, Amos Kendall surveyed and platroyed much of present-day Lee’s Summit with help from Captain John Dennison of Stonington (now Columbia). A post office called Kendallville was established here in 1850; it lasted until 1861 when it changed its name to Springfield because Union troops were quartered there at the time. In 1865, Springfield incorporated as a city and then again as a town in 1870; its current name is derived from its location on Main Street withinLee’s Summit Townshipspeople are still referred to as “townies” even though they live elsewhere within township boundaries today In 1903–1904 Pabst Brewing Company built one of their largest breweries outside of North America at 6th & Market Streets which became known as Brewery Park On December 20th 1904 an earthquake struck Leavenworth causing major damage including loss of structures such as churches and schools
