Cudahy is a small town in the towns of Spooner and West Allis, in Wiscones County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Green Bay metropolitan area. The name Cudahy comes from the Ojibwe word "kuhdaha," meaning "settlement." The first settler in what is now Cudahy was John Purdy in 1838. He built a cabin on the banks of the La Crosse River. A post office called Cudahy was established in 1846, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1893. Cudahy began as a village but grew quickly to become an incorporated city when it became an agricultural center with many businesses and schools. In 1902, the City Council voted to rename itself after General George Washington Carver because of his work at nearby Racine Agricultural College (now UW-Green Bay). The city became known as Carverville after General Carver's death in 1942. In 1956, Waukesha County annexed parts of Cudahy including most of its eastern border which made that county also part of Green Bay Metropolitan Area

Cudahy is a town in the town of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,989 at the 2010 census. Cudahy is located in the northwestern corner of Milwaukee County. The first settler in what is now Cudahy Township was David Alexander Hutton on July 10, 1837. He and his family were pioneer farmers and began to grow corn and potatoes near present-day Niles Center. On November 3, 1838, Hutton married Sarah Ann Brandt from Anoka County, Minnesota. They had six children: David (1839–1905), John (1841–1925), Edwin Leland (1843–1920), Margaretta Maynard (1846–1927), and Alice Arthur Hutton (1848–1926). In 1849, Chauncey Sibley purchased part of the township from David Hutton for $4 per acre. In 1850 Chauncey also patented three hundred acres of land in what is now Cudahy Township west of the Wabash River which he named Prairie du Chien after his home state of Wisconsin’s capital city – then called Madison – because he thought it would be a good place for agriculture based on its fertile soil and rolling hills. On October 25, 1855, whenWisconsin became a state with its own government following the Organic Act of 1862 by Abraham Lincoln as part of his Great Reform Project - this area lay within Racine County - all townships except Cudahy were created from Racine Lake Township including Precinct 6 north central section east line thence to Wabash River along said river to precinct’s limits; boundary between Racine Lake Township & that portion included in Prairie du Chien Township being hereby lines drawn so as to include all lots annexed thereto since August 1st last year inclusive; survey made by Jno A Belknap Surveyor… The name “Cudahy” originated with early settlers who did not want their nameakes scattered throughout many different places though they may have originally come from other countries such as Canada or England where names are cherished more than here because citizens there know them better without having to go through someone else’s trouble just to get their name mentioned
