In 1957, the Gun Safe Manufacturing Company merged with another safety manufacturer to form the Safeway Corporation (now known as Axtell). At Safeway, the Gun Safe Manufacturing Company continued to produce safes under its own name until 1990 when it became part of the Glock corporation. The history of gun safes can be traced back to 1892 when Mr. John HSmith Sr., started making safes for himself and his family in Cedarburg, Wisconsin using his own resources and ingenuity. By 1907, Mr. Smith had started producing a version of what is now known as a “gun safe” which he called the “Smith & Wesson model A”safe (pictured below). This safe was designed specifically for use at home with handguns and other firearms such as shotguns and rifles that were not being stored in commercial institutions or during wartime times where stateand local law may have prohibited these types of storage restrictions (e.g., Chicago)). Although this early design was successful, it was not long before other manufacturers began offering their own versions of this type of safe; some even going so far as to create their own designs specific for their product lines (e.g., Yale Armory's Model C4Safe ). In 1957, two companies merged to form the Safeway Corporation: The Guns & Ammo Company which manufactured guns only (notsafes) while axtell made safes for both guns & ammo as well as homes/businesses . As part of this merger there were several changes made within both companies including rename from Guns & AmmoManufacturing Co./Safeway Corp to Glocks Inc./Axtell Firearms Corp At Glocks Inc./Axtell Firearms Corp., production on firearms resumed under new ownership with renewed focus on quality control measures Additionally , due to its proximity to Chicago which had become increasingly prohibitionistic over time ,Glocks Inc./Axtell Firearms Corp produced many prototypes prior TO production launch OF THE Glock handgun Which led directly intoveto pistol manufacturing !! During much of these years we operated out Of my house because my wife would always fret about something happening To our SAFE ..... she WAS WAY Country Woman !!!!!!!!!

She donated some of her land to the United States government for this purpose. This donation made Prairie du Chien an Indian reservation and changed its name to Cedarburg on November 1, 1870. On February 2, 1892, Jesse Ladd married Minnie Mae Hefferty at the Methodist Episcopal church located in downtown Cedarburg. They had two children: Jesse (1902-2002) and Kathy (born 1955). Jesse served two terms as mayor of Cedarburg from 1984 to 1988; he also served as recorder from 1978-1981 and 1991-1994; Kathy worked for many years as assistant city attorney before becoming city auditor in 2001; she died on October 10, 2006 aged 94 years old."Jesse Ladd – Mayor during controversial times" On February 16th 1905 Charles McCulloch married Alberta Aitken at the Methodist Episcopal Church located in downtown which became their final wedding anniversary celebration. Today's economy is based largely on manufacturing with a strong presence in agriculture including dairy products. The town has seen rapid growth over the last few decades with many new businesses being established thanks to Interstate 94 which runs through town and connects most parts of the Midwest.
