The Waxahachie community began as a small frontier settlement in 1851 by farmers associated with the Denton Rancho San Antonio de las Flores family. In 1863, General Sam Houston granted land to John Urias for a town site that would become Waxahachie. The first Post Office opened in 1865 under the name of Eustaceville; it was renamed Waxahachie in 1867 when it became a county seat of Midland County. In 1898, President McKinley named John Foust "Mayor of Waxahachie" due to his contributions to civic and economic development within the city limits during his governorship. A new courthouse was dedicated on October 17, 1899 and soon became known as one of America's most beautiful courthouse buildings – considered an architectural landmark today! In 1924 Mayor Lamar Hogg designated downtown as an open-air movie theater complex which remains one of Dallas' top entertainment attractions today! Today there are several large shopping malls located throughout downtown including Marshall Field's (now Macy's) original location adjacent to the old Depot Square train station across from Main Street Park; Rice University campus - now home to multiple high-end restaurants and hotels; Bank One Tower - home to over 100 businesses including Saks Fifth Avenue department store chain; Stonestreet Mall - anchored by JCPenney department store; Roses mall which closed in 2003 but will be reopened as a mixed-use center featuring office space and retail stores near IMAX theaters; and much more...the downtown core has never looked so vibrant or prosperous!

Waxahachie, an American general during World War I who served in Europe and Asia. Waxahachie experienced its heyday as a center for agriculture before becoming a manufacturing and banking town during the 1920s and 1930s. However, since the 1990s it has lost much of its industrial base to other cities in that region such as Amarillo and Dallas. Today, Waxahachie retains some of its traditional rural values, including cattle ranching and golfing opportunities.
Waxahachie is a city in and the county seat of Travis County, Texas, United States. The population was 103,822 at the 2010 census.The city was founded in 1836 by two brothers named Henderson and Wacoalix Claymore. In 1847, Waxahachie became a town when it annexed the neighboring village of Haltom City. Waxahachie's original name was "Hendersonville." In 1861, the Union army burned down Haltom City's courthouse to prevent its reuse as a Confederate military hospital. On October 25, 1865 – one year after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated – Confederate General John Buford surrendered at Fort Hood inTexarkana without any battle or fighting. This event is known as "Haltom City's Resistance". On December 1, 1886, Waxahachie joined the State of Texas as an area within its territorial limits on which to establish a government for newts that had been removed from their natural home in Mexico. The people of this new community voted against creating an official government and chose instead to form their own militia company under Captain Jno Ewing Spencer (1841-1906) which they called the Texans Battalion #1
