The Snyder shooting took place on February 14, 2019, when a gunman opened fire at a local Walmart store in the town of Snyder, Texas. On February 15, 2019, the gunman was identified as Devin Kelley. He had been living in Wichita Falls, Texas at the time of the shooting. Kelley worked at Walmart for two years before he became a customer service representative. On February 14th, he entered the store with two handguns and began firing indiscriminately. No one was killed or injured in the attack. Kelley was shot and killed by police after making his way to an escape vehicle outside of the store.

The town lies within Midland Independent School District and has two schools – Heritage High School and Snyder Junior-Senior High School – as well as a library, an amphitheater and other public services. In 1889, three brothers named John, George and Jesse Snyder founded what would become Midland County seat Pecos City on what is now Southside Drive east of present day Snyder Boulevard. They were motivated by a desire to find a more permanent place to live than their family's homebase of Fort Worth at that time which they thought lacked life appeal due to its lack of water resources. In 1891 when Pecos received its charter from the State Legislature it became an incorporated municipality with boundaries defined by Cedar Creek upstream from downtown Pecos while Brushy Fork ran downriver to Dodge City across Buffalo Bayou into Milam County line west of present day Wichita Falls The original plat for what would become Snyder included all or part of present-day Brushy Fork Road (now US 287) between South Street northeast of today's Walmart store off I-635 north (then Loop 610), east side current day corner lot southwest corner current day skirt east side alley between South/Northeast streets pasttoday’s IHOP restaurant site; also descendants can trace back ancestral homesites starting around Old 400 block Sanger Rd., just south (southwest) of intersection with 3rd St., west side Goodloe Ave., NNE corner property lines just north (northwest)of intersection with Richardson Rd.; North end feature lots were: Elmendorf Rd., SW Corner lot currently owned & operated by Lillie Mae & Harold Hammouda; 3rd St./South Side Dr.: originally largest lots but have been reduced size since incorporation; 2nd biggest Lots: W Corner lot currently owned & operated by MrsFannie Hiller Reid along w/NW Corner lot belonging to Alvin Mayhew Sr.; NE Corner Lots: Home Owners Association dues paid land total=9 acres purchased 8 years ago ndash next door neighbour HOA donated 2 acres
Snyder, Texas is located in the U.S. state of Texas. The city was founded on December 10, 1836, by James Fenton Snyder and other Americans who left the Mexican-American War at Bexar County's Alamo Hill. The first post office in the city was established on October 15, 1837. It grew quickly due to its location off the main road between San Antonio and Austin, as well as its natural resources such as oil and gas reserves. Snyder became a major center for commerce and industry in central Texas during the late 19th century. In 1907, Snyder was renamed after General George Custer because of his military service in Mexico City during that time period.
