There are many gun slings in Fort Worth, Texas. The most well-known of these is the Pistol Slingshot which was developed by Captain James Bowie in 1845. This unique weapon fired a single round from a small cannon called a "pistol." It was used to shoot targets at short range and was very effective. The first rifles were brought into Fort Worth in 1851 and they were used by the Cavalry and artillery units. In 1865, the fort became an arsenal and also saw usage by the Confederate Army during the Battle of Fort Sumter. In 1870, Riflemen of Company D (1st Battalion) 4th Texas Infantry Regiment sling their rifles over a sandbag wall to fire at moving Indians near Black Mesa. This event is often cited as being one of the first times that firearms were fired from artillery positions withinFort Worth limits. From 1881 to 1886, rifle practice ranges were built on Sand Creek Hill east of downtown Fort Worth for infantry riflemen from Company G (2nd Battalion) 2nd Texas Infantry Regiment, now known as 1st/7th Marines Corps Rifles. These ranges allowed soldiers to practice shooting at long range without fear of hitting someone else with their gunfire. Eventually, these ranges would be replaced with full-sized battle theaters where infantry snipers could engage enemy troops at close range while other troops defended against cavalry charges or machineguns firing down onto them from high up in trees or hills

The settlement grew quickly thanks largely to cotton cultivation which became increasingly important due to increased Mexican demand for slaves following Santa Anna’s successful campaign against Ulysses S Grant’s forces at Palo Alto de Tejas in 1846; fortification became necessary since Mexican forces had begun raiding small towns along the Red River Valley seeking accomplices in their efforts to retake Texas from Grant’s Americans.* In order for FtWorth residents not onlyto protect themselves but also grow crops side by side with Mexicans who were already living there*,fortifications were erected including a series of walls that ran parallel unto each other along Elm Street nearpresent day Interstate 10* (* See footnote below). Despite this security measure*,raids continued throughout much of 1847(*See footnote below*) until Presidio Captain David E civil guard unit arrived from New Orleans* (*See footnote below) which ended all hostilities between Mexicans & Americans in earnest*. During Reconstruction period many African Americans moved into FtWorth from surrounding areas such as Dallas/Fort Worth which experienced similar levelsOf racism*.
