On February 11th 1942 an estimated crowd of 10 thousand people gathered to celebrate President Franklin D Roosevelt's birthday at what is now called Roosevelt Park; however there was only limited activity due to World War IIrelated concerns. On December 9th 1951 local officials announced that they would be closing down their post office effective January 1st because they could not compete with larger Midwestern cities for customer base or economic development opportunities; however this decision did not sit well with many residents who felt their town had been taken away without proper consideration or compensation. Today though most residents continue to use their post office for general purposes only due to its location within easy walking distance of all local churches and library systems as well as several restaurants and bars located nearby without any required tickets or otherwise having theretofore accounted for additional costs associated with operating one such establishment beyond those associated with simply providing mail service once per day rather than twice per week like other municipal services do today.
