Fostoria is part of the Jackson County seat and is bordered by Youngstown to the east, Mahoning Valley to the south and west, andSummit Township to the north. The first people in what is now Fostoria arrived from Canada around 1836 when a party led by Captain John Macdonald crossed overland from Kingston, Ontario via what is now Erie County. Although there are many theories about where Fostoria came from, one theory suggests that it was named for General George Washington's headquarters during his army's retreat through Ohio in 1777-78 known as The Great Enclosure or The Battle of Fallen Timbers. Another theory suggests that it may have been named for General David Trumbull who fought in several wars against Native Americans near present day Akron and Mentor before being appointed brigadier general in 1794th Regiment (later 10th United States Infantry) under General Nathanael Greene during The First Barbary War (1799-1800). Fostoria, Ohio is a small city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Fostoria Township. The population was 5,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fostoria was founded in 1824 by Nicholas Fostoria and his brother Constantine as a farming village on the Scioto River near present-day Akron, Ohio. The name comes from French for "fish-market." In 1830, Nicholas's son George Washington Fostoria moved to Fostoria with his family and started an agricultural business that would become one of America's leading grain traders and processors. From 1832 to 1836, he was President pro tempore of the Ohio State Senate. In 1840, he became Mayor of Akron and served two terms before retiring in 1845 due to health problems. He died at home on November 12th that year at age 86 years old. His wife Catherine (née Higginson) followed him into death six weeks later on December 3rd aged 83 years old; they had married on October 6th, 1841. Nicholas' widow Catherine continued to manage their business until her death in 1862; it then passed through her daughter Elmira's hands until its sale in 1898 to David Sennett who renamed it United States Grain Company (USGC). The company later became Archer Daniels Midland when that company merged with Consolidated Foods Corporation in 1984; USGC was sold again in 1999 to PBF Energy plc., also headquartered in Akron but majority owned by British Petroleum Plc., which rebranded it Pioneer Natural Resources Corporation (PNR). After being dormant for several years following PNR's acquisition by Unocal Corp., Fostoriagrain reopened on October 1st, 2006 as Grand Rapids Corn Flour Mills Inc., LLC.; currently operates as a flour mill located within the boundaries of FOSTORIA TOWNship limits along I-680 between US 41W & I-271E In 2000s there were many changes taking place with globalization affecting different industries throughout America such as agriculture however nothing happened for townspeople who only continue working within their own industry On September 11th 2001 attacks American president George W Bush announced Operation Neptune Spear which targeted terrorist cells connected with al Qaeda The townspeople did not believe what they were seeing outside their windows so when news spread about this operation they decided to organize themselves together called "the community" once again joining forces against Terrorism The community soon disbanded after few members left because most residents didn't want anything to do with helping or supporting terrorists
Fostoria was founded in 1788 by Anthony Wayne and others. The town was named after Fenton County, Michigan. In 1825, the town of Fostoria became a city.
