Gun barrels have a long and varied history in Patchogue, New York. The first guns were made in the town by early Europeans who used them to hunt game. In 1834, a gunsmith named Benjamin Fenton began making barrels for handguns in Patchogue. He continued to do this until 1856, when he moved his business to what is now called the Ben Fenton Gun Store. From then on, gun barrels started being manufactured all over the United States, most notably in Canada. However, it was patchogue which became known as the birthplace of modern handgun barrel manufacturing. In 1892, John Henry Ruger began manufacturing revolvers in Patchogue. This was followed by Smith & Wesson Corporation in 1903. Ruger continued producing handguns until 1984; however, Smith & Wesson stopped production of revolvers altogether in 2000. This makes patchogue the only location where both Smith & Wesson and Ruger handguns are still being produced today. The Ben Fenton Gun Store is also home to one of the oldest shooting ranges in New York State (established 1921). It has been used for training purposes ever since!

Patchogue, New York is a town in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 9,764 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Patchogue Point on Long Island Sound. It was first settled by Europeans in 1624 and became a part of the English colony of Rhode Island in 1646. In 1814, as part of the Organic Acts of New York State, Patchogue became a part of the United States. The town was originally called North Patchogue and South Patchogue until 1797 when it was renamed to honor General Jonathan Edwards who had fought for America during the Revolutionary War. The name Edwards also inspired George Washington's namesake plantation in Virginia. At one time there were over 100 residences withinPatchogue limits; however many have been demolished or replaced since then due to development or changing needs within the community. In 1834-35 an effort was made to rename all thirteen townships on Long Island Sound after Governors from different parts of New England (the first being Warwick). This plan never came to fruition because no such person existed from Rhode Island and most towns accepted their new names without objection from neighboring communities which continued to use their original names throughout the 1800s and into the 1920s. One exception was Northfield which refused to change its name because it honored two previous governors—George Clinton and John Adams—whom they considered \"false heroines\"of American history both before and after independence from Great Britain. Finally, in 1926 when all sixteen townships on Long Island Sound were re-organized into what is now Nassau County, North Patchogue received its own county seat at Westport but this did not happen until 1978 when East Hampton lost its borough charter and merged with villages including Southampton as Wellfleet Borough proposed that village be given an equal share of services with Nassau County residents living just outside its borders while still maintaining its independent status as a separate entity with full taxing power like any other village within Nassau County . NowadaysPatchogue is known for hosting annual events such as Auld Lang Syne Festival (a celebration of traditional Scottish music), Hempfest (a marijuana festival)and Loudonville Bowl Classic high school wrestling championships among others
On the evening of September 3, 1664, a group of colonists on the Island of Patchogue began to build a crude fortification. The settlers were unaware that the powerful French Iroquois tribe was soon to arrive and attack them. The France-Iroquois alliance had been formed during the Dutch-French War and was made up of several hundred warriors from both sides. The French were also interested in expanding their territory in New Netherland and planned to drive out the English settlers. The fortifications that the colonists built were not very strong and quickly fell into disrepair. On October 2, 1664, about eighty French warriors arrived on the island with orders to burn down all of the Fort Nassau compound. However, they were met by a smallpox epidemic which decimated most of their forces. The English defenders managed to hold out until November 8 when they surrendered without any casualties. The fortifications that were built on Patchogue remain one of America's earliest historical landmarks. They are now used as a museum and are open to visitors every day from 9am to 4pm.
