Glen Rock is a town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden–Atlantic City metropolitan area. The name " Glen Rock" comes from two sources: one originates from Chief rock and refers to an animal found in the area; the other derives from a Scottish term meaning "a green meadow." The first recorded settlement in the territory now known as Glen Rock occurred in 1756 when Scotsman John Campbell built a cabin on what is now called Park Avenue. In 1814, Alexander Hamilton's family moved to Glen Rock and started a small mercantile business there. In 1876, J. P. Morgan negotiated with George Clinton for control of Passaic Valley Railroad between Camden and Atlantic City through Glenrock and Livingston Township). When this deal went bad, Morgan bought out Clinton's share for $1 million dollars and reopened the railroad as part of his new company, Rahway & Delaware Railway Company (RD&EC). RD&EC became one of America's most powerful transportation companies until it merged with Penn Central Railroad in 1976. From its early days as a small community near Princeton Junction, GlenRock has always been heavily involved in education - several businesses have made their mark on local schools including Haddon Heights Elementary School (founded by banker Edwin Haddon), Onondaga High School (established 1865), Manchester Grammar School (1892), and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church which opened its doors in 1905. GlenRock also enjoys some excellent amenities such as its own independent police department and fire department; state-of-the-art hospitals including Weis Medical Center; golf courses including Glenside Country Club which was founded by mathematics professor Dr. James Glenside in 1927; numerous retail stores including Bergen County Jewelers & Loan Association; art galleries like The Gallery at Riverfront Place; popular nightlife destinations such as Joe's Pub located just off Route 9A south of town center or Borough Hall Social Club which offers live music every Friday night beginning at 8pm!

It is considered to be part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The name, Glen Rock comes from two hills that overlook the town. The first settlement in what is now Glen Rock Township was made up of families who came overland from Pennsylvania in 1795. They named their new township after a mountain in Scotland which they saw while travelling through that country. In 1814, an act was passed by the General Assembly of New Jersey creating Hunterdon and Morris counties and incorporating the townships within those counties. In 1821, three brothers founded a distillery called Blue Hills Distillery on what is now Main Street in Glen Rock Township. This became one of the leading distilleries in America for many years and remains a popular attraction today. In 1827, David Colvin bought land adjoining his brother's property on Third Avenue and built a woolen millinery business called "Colvin & Son". This company still operates as an anchor tenant at present day'sAndrews Mill Co., Inc., which opened its doors to customers on December 12th, 1922 It should be noted that Andrew's Mill closed down less than two months after it reopened due to increased competition from other mills in nearby Edison Township- this seems to be an early example of modern-day industry consolidation taking place throughout much of rural NJ as larger companies moved into formerly independent businesses
Glen Rock was founded in 1764 by James Glen and his brother, John. It became a county seat in 1821 and was renamed to its current name in 1892. The town is located on the east bank of the Delaware River, just upstream from Philadelphia.
