One solution to these safety concerns was to start wearing firearms hats as protection against weather exposure and potential gunfire attacks. In 1830 Captain Fenton again produced firearms hats when he opened a store near present day downtown Somersworth In 1840 Captain Fenton opened another store in Manchester which became known as "The Arsenal." This store sold guns and ammunition along with other items related to New Hampshire militia service In 1848 Major General Amos Kendall organized The NH State militia regiment #5 at Lebanon Junction Kendall also started producing firearms hats which were eventually renamed fedoras After Major General Kendall's death in 1850 Lieutenant Colonel George Higginson took over command of The NH State militia regiment #2 Higginson continuedproduced firearms Hats until 1861 when he resigned due to health reasons Captain John Fenton reopened his shop on Main Street in Somersworth around this time period where he continued manufacturing firearms hats until 1870 When he retired because of age

It is home to two high schools, Somersworth Academy and Manchester High School. The Somersworth Historical Society has been operating since 1876 and preserves the history of Somersworth and surrounding townships. The town's name comes from John Somers who platted the town in 1786. The first settler arrived in 1790 named Joseph Sheehan after his father who had come before him to trade with the natives near what is now Somersworth. In 1815, Jonas Vail founded a grist mill on the river which became known as Vail & Vail grist Mill until it was bought by Prentiss Randolph in 1865 and renamed Randolph Manufacturing Company which continued until 1984 when it merged with Universo Corporation to become Universo Corporation/Honeywell International Incorporated As early as 1650 there were people living around present day SomersworthNH . One account says that Samuel Winslow came overland from Massachusetts about 1650 for religious reasons only to find that he could not live among the Native Americans so he set off across country with his family for several days walking before returning home without finding any land that would allow him to establish himself permanently among them Some believe that this event may have been what led Captain John Smith to choose New England rather then India as his next destination during his voyage around North America in late 1607 . A plaque located at Southbridge Hall marks where Winslow's camp meeting took place on July 20th of that year After spending some time among these folks he finally decided against traveling further east but returned home on October 8th following a journey of more than 100 miles According to one source , although no evidence supports this claim , there are numerous artifacts found throughout present day NH which suggest various tribes interacted with each other prior to English settlement There are also reports of Indian attacks on white settlements throughout present day NH during this time period So while there may be some truth behind some of these claims we can never say for certain what really happened known current residents: Cornelius Harden (born c1735), Ann White (born c1820), George Fenton (born c1836), Augustus Ladd (born 1881). From earliest times there were inhabitants of this area including both English colonists and native peoples The first permanent English settlers arrived around 1786 when John Somers platted the town site fromaconceding land grants given by King George III These grantees included half acre parcels called "Somerset" being located northeast corner of present day Broadway Street and River Road They soon moved their homes into new structures erected along Broadway Street between today's Longwood Avenue and Thames Street While they remained here for many years they had difficulty getting water rights granted from local proprietors so they built well water engines making themselves selfsufficient overnight Weighed down by heavy equipment they developed an elaborate system providing good quality water even under adverse conditions For many years those particular Dutchmen functioned as our public officials And because we always looked up to them our official seal shows a man wearing a Hollandia hatTragically however due to navigation errors made while surveying America during World War II their Walden Pond house caught fire leaving them completely unable or unwilling ever again To wield power over their fellow citizens like those prior generations we instead elected mayors beginning with Mayor Lenox Adams served unbroken from 1951 until 1981 When he resigned after serving only 7 months

Somersworth is a town in New Hampshire, United States. It was founded in 1724 by Increase Mather and has been the county seat of Somersworth County since 1738. The population was 5,866 at the 2010 census. Somersworth is located on the upstream edge of Lake Winnipesaukee along NH Route 6. The town began as an agricultural village on the east side of Center Brook, now part of Somersworth Village. Mather's family sold their farmstead to John Whitcomb in 1734 and soon after built a gristmill on the brook that bears their name. In 1738, theyadraves (a branch of New England) won a large land lottery and were given 1,000 acres (400 hectares) around which to build their new community. They named it Somersworth after Richard Somers, one of their trustees. In 1802, with western Massachusetts becoming free from British rule following the Treaty of Amity and Commerce, settlers from Portsmouth founded what became Portsmouth Naval Shipyard onshore in what is now downtown Somersworth. shipbuilders there produced much Revolutionary War naval hardware such as cannonballs and kiteshells while also creating some firsts for warships like HMS Victory and HMS Caryannus The mills closed during World War II but reopened again in 1946 to continue manufacturing military equipment until 1978 when production ended altogether due to sequestration in Congress; however, parts are still being manufactured offshore by a company based out of Portsmouth After years off-the-grid living due to lack of access to water or power supplies caused by drought conditions in recent years, local citizens banded together led by Mayor Lisa Latham last year formed an all-volunteer fire department which has responded quickly both times callouts have occurred .
