One of the earliest known shotgun manuals, “A Treatise on Shotgun Shooting”, was written by Samuel Morse in 1820. In 1827, Laconia became the site of one of the first gun shows in New England. The event attracted representatives from all over New England and raised money for local charities. In 1896, Laconia became an unincorporated community within Cannon Falls Township. This change was due to the efforts of John J. Haggerty, who served as mayor from 1895-1902 and then as alderman from 1904-1910. He believed that an unincorporated community should have its own leaders and resources so that it could continue to contribute to the community better than when it was part of Cannon Falls Township. The town decided to become self-sufficient and formed its own government with its own tax laws and social services. This move helped make Laconia one of the most prosperous communities in Cannon Falls Township during this time period. Beginning in 1942, NRA instructor Tom Weinstock began offering classes at rifle range #2 located on Main Street in Laconia under the name “Good Shooting School” The first class took place on October 15th 1942 and taught by Mr Weinstock himself with assistance from his assistant Instructor Mr Goudreau (later Mrs Goudreau). From these initial classes some seventy students graduated with their NRA certification including future Governor Frank Keating (ofNH). These initial students were followed by other instructors who continued instruction until 1975 when rifle range #2 closed down due to financial constraints brought about by World War II veterans returning home not being able to find work outside their homes again after service duty ended

Laconia is a town in New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,405 at the 2010 census. Laconia is part of the Manchester-Haverhill-Newton (MNH) Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled in 1798 by Loyalists who fled the American Revolution, and was named for General Alexander Macdonough Ladd who fought in that war. In 1814, it became a seat of government for Hillsborough County when that county was created from part ofManchester Township. It lost its status as a town in 1929 and has since been an unincorporated village. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,292 people, 477 households, and 353 families residing in the town. The population density was 24 people per square mile (10/km²). There were 517 housing units at an average density of 14 per square mile (5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White, 0% African American, 0% Native American, 0% Asian, 0% Pacific Islander, and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 3% of the population. There were 477 households out of which 36% had children under age 18 living with them, 61% were married couples living together, 11% had a female householder with no husband present., and 22% were non-families. 16 % of all households were made up of individuals and 5 % had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older
