Concord, New Hampshire is known for its many natural beauty attractions, such as the White Mountains and the Adirondacks. The city has also been home to some of America’s most well-known shooting ranges. Concord was founded in 1795 by General George Washington as a military post on the border of New Hampshire and Vermont. The range was later used by the United States Army during World War II. Today, Concord’s shooting ranges are open to the public and offer a variety of activities for visitors, including target shooting, bow hunting, pistol training, and rifle practice. The first recorded use of fireworks in Concord took place on July 4th, 1814 when soldiers from nearby Manchester set off firework grenades at a private party nearby. Gaspard de la Motte used fireworks to celebrate his victory over John Burgoyne in Battle of Saratoga in 1779. In 1827, American President James K Polk made Concord an official gathering place for Independence Day celebrations. In 1862, Colonel Edwin Mudge opened what is now called “Mudge’s Range” located just east of downtown Concord on land donated by General Nathaniel Fisk. This range became one of America’s earliest outdoor firing sites where troops could practice artillery bombardment and infantry fighting techniques while under enemy fire. The range continued to be used until 1965 when it was closed due to damage from Hurricane Sandy which impacted the area hard. In 1916 Captain Smedley Butler opened the original Red Hill NRA Shooting Range located about two miles southeast of downtown Concord on Black Mountain Road between exits 33A ( Interstate I-80) and 34A (New York State Route 132). Captain Butler designed this ranges using principles learned from World War I battlefield gunnery experience gained at Ypres Ridge in Belgium where he served as Commander 1st Battalion American Infantry Regiment No 1 from 1915-1918 inclusive with duty at Antwerp Arsenal munitions depot duties opposite German MG 14 machineguns being destroyed or disabled during attacks against our position nightly night prior to battle action beginning early morning June 8th 1916….Captain Smedley Butler's Red Hill NRA Rifle & Pistol Range consisted Of A vast Open Grange With Hardwood floors And A Mural Map Of England On One wall And A Picture Of A Cannonball headed For An exact Target On Another Wall… Each Shootist Enjoyed Complete Control Over Their Weapon Under Which They Could Make Every Shot Count….. At Captain Butler's Range Ammunition Was Not Taken From Company Store Streets Which Made It Possible To Do Real Practice Shots At Unreliable Material targets Targets Which Were Easily Destroyed By ricocheting off Floor Surfaces Or By Spinning Around After Landing All That Fired Off At Once Needed Some Time To Recover From Start To Finish Before Making another shot……... Concord, New Hampshire is a town in Union County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 3,868 at the 2010 census. Concord has been home to the General Court of New England since 1692. It is one of the older towns in the state and it was named after John Harvard, an English gentleman who settled there in 1736. The town was platted by Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1755 and incorporated as a village on December 12th, 1786. When NH became a state in 1912 Concord became part of the new Granite State government. The population increased rapidly during World War II with many soldiers living and working here. The mills closed around 1960 but some remained until 1984 when they were acquired by Mitsubishi Corporation and renovated into apartments. After that event Concord experienced a few decades of decline until its resurgence beginning in 2006 as more people moved into the area for jobs or suburban development opportunities outside of Manchester Airport which had slowly become accessible due to Interstate 89 being built nearby
