Excelsior Springs, located in the Ozarks of Missouri, was once home to a large telescope manufacturer. The company supplied scopes to many different scientific institutions around the world. In addition to their scopes, the company also manufactured telescopes for private individuals and businesses. The production of telescopes at Excelsior Springs began in 1892 and continued until shortly before World War I. During the war, the company produced artillery sights for the military. After the war, Excelsior Springs returned to its manufacture of scopes and other optical equipment. Many of these products were used by various scientific institutions throughout Missouri during the early 20th century. The first telescope manufactured at Excelsior Springs was an 8-inch Newtonian reflecting telescope belonging to Professor Charles Winton of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. This instrument was first used by Professor Winton on February 2nd, 1892 in a lecture given at Vanderbilt University entitled “On Some New Observations Made with a reflector Telescope”. At that time, there were only a fewreflecting Telescopes available for use by scientists in America due to technological advancements such as photography and cinema that had yet to be developed! In 1897-98 Dr. John Goodenough built an 8-inch reflecting telescope using natural light from stars located near his farmstead on Saline Creek within sight of Excelsior Springs! goodenough@ixi3networkscom During this time period there were also several advances made in technology which helped increase accuracy and performance when using telescopic instruments: In 1896 Constantine von Neumann designed a new type of electronic scanning mirror known as CCD (charge Coupled Device). This innovation allowed images taken with microscopes or other high magnification devices to be captured electronically instead of requiring physical phenomena like focus or image stabilization! By developing this technology he quickly increased accuracy and performance while maintaining low cost which ultimately led him to co-founded Konrad Zuse Company who invented digital photography! In 1912 American astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered his own galaxy called Andromeda – one of many galaxies discovered through telescopic observation over ensuing years! Following Hubble’s discovery many astronomers turned their attention towards looking for galaxies beyond our Milky Way Galaxy via space observatories such as Hakasey Radio Observatory operated by James Atherton between 1923 & 1929 – providing us today with detailed views across entiresky!). Excelsior Springs, Missouri is a city in the Ozarks region of Missouri. The population was 33,879 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area and is located about 30 miles (48 km) northeast of St. Louis. The name "Excelsior Springs" was given to it by General George Armstrong Custer during his visit to this small town in 1879. The first people to live in what would become Excelsior Springs were local hunters and their families who hunted game near the confluence of the White and Mississippian Rivers. By 1870, there were over 100 residents living in Excelsior Springs. In 1880, a post office was established at Excelsior Springs with James Fenton as Postmaster-General. In 1892, one of America's first electric railways, the Kansas City Terminal Railway Company (KCTR), began operations from its Depot on Main Street across the street from First Presbyterian Church in downtown Excelsior Springs. KCTR transported goods between Kansas City and Springfield until it merged into the Chicago Electric Railway company in 1919. A new depot was built on Fourth Street between Market and State Streets in 1915 for KCTR's successor, Great Western Railroad Company (GWRC). After World War II, when Autobahn traffic increased along Interstate 270 east of STL, GWRC decided to abandon its tracks through central Excelsior Springs and build an interchange with I-270 north of town instead which created an immediate need for more space at their Depot on Third Street which served as both Office Park Headquarters for GWRC as well as studios for several local TV stations that served area including WDSU-TV; KMOV; KFVS; KYGO; WWJ-TV until they all moved out by 1990 when I-270 opened up completely aroundtown making then 3rd Street dead end without any business or development taking place at all! From 1970 until present day there has been no real economic development or growth taking place within a radius of 3 blocks from where our current Administration Complex currently stands! This lack of progress can be directly attributed to our current Mayor & City Council who are content to rely solely on government grants/investments generated through various community Development Initiatives such as: Prekindergarten Construction Grants (BJCG); Renewable Energy Tax Credits (); Euclid Avenue beautification program - resurfacing ½ mile stretch from corner 2nd Ave N & Maple Ave NW; numerous neighborhood block parties annually drawing hundreds if not thousands attendees onto streetscape throughout entire city each springtime !!! History Repeats ITSELF !!!!! We MUST Address Our REAL IMPROVEMENT Needs NOW OR WE WILL LOSE OUR COMMUNITY TO OLD EXCELSIOR SPRINGS BY THE TIME OUR NEXT CITY COUNCIL COMES INTO POWER IN 2020 !!!!! Excelsior Springs is a small town in the Ozarks of central Missouri. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. Excelsior Springs is part of the Springfield, MO Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located about 54 miles south-southwest of St. Louis, Missouri and 26 miles north-northwest of Kansas City, Missouri on U.S. Route 61. The first settler in Excelsior Springs was John Hanks who arrived in 1835 from Wabash County, Illinois. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street near the present day post office building which he named after his family's home town in Scotland, Excelsior (pronounced "excel"). A gristmill and sawmill were built at this site soon after Hanks' arrival and operated until 1857 when they were replaced by a wagon mill and later an engine shop/mills complex that still stands today on Union Road east of downtown Excelsior Springs. During the 1840s many people came to search for new land to settle as explorers discovered new routes through central Missouri available for settlement by men without horses or pack animals such as oxen and mules teams over rough trails that had been used bychief Keokuk Indian tribes for hunting and gathering during their annual migrations across the Great Plains during summer months when game was abundant including buffalo herds common along much of this area at that time In 1846 two other early settlers within walking distance of one another - James Crain and Isaac Noyes - erected a store (later known as Mr.'Noyes grocery) on what is now First Street southeast of present day Exchange Place just east of where First Avenue meets US 61 northwest of downtown St Louis This store continued to be open until 1903 when it burned down leaving only an empty lot behind .
