Mccomb is a town in McComb County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 6,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson, MS Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mccomb was organized on October 3, 1821 when a group of men from nearby Meridian purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) of land along the Wabash River. On July 4, 1836, Mccomb's first school opened with twenty-one children enrolled. In 1868 Mccomb became the seat of government for McComb County and on December 8 that year it incorporated as a city under the name "MCCOMB". A post office called "MCCOMB" was established in 1869 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. A cotton gin operated by Elijah Hicks began operations in 1830 at what is now known as Hicksville and continued to be run until 1865. The first electric lights were installed in Mccombsville around 1903 by an entrepreneur named John Fenton who had connections with industrialists throughout Jackson County. By 1907 there were over 100 businesses located in Mccombsville with 1,500 residents employed therein. In 1915 Methodist Bishop James Henson moved his flock from Meridian to McCombsville after experiencing difficulties providing religious services within his new community. During World War I McCombsville served as an air raid shelter due to its proximity to Jackson Army Air Field; however no damage resulted from the raids which took place during that war elsewhere in Mississippi or Arkansas). After V-J Day McCombsville proudly observed America's victory parade which passed through town on November 11th 1945 complete with military units parading down Main Street followed by speeches by Mayor Harry Laughlin and General George Smedley Butler Jr., Assistant Chief of Staff for War Plans Division Headquarters Ulysses S Grant High School Chapel bell ringers giving special performances such as "The Nutcracker" and "Dixie". 7 years later on May 16th 2000 City fathers approved budget changes increasing funding for public works including resurfacing of downtown streets/pavements and installation of new streetlights; this led to plans for a large outdoor fireworks show at Jones Park which never transpired because Hurricane Katrina came ashore two days later resulting in extensive damage to both parks making them unusable for any type of entertainment other than picnics

Mccomb, Mississippi is a city in Marshall County, Mississippi. The population was 9,822 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. Mccomb was founded in 1851 by John C. McComb and named for him. The town grew rapidly during the 1850s and 1860s due to its location on the so-called "golden age" of railroads in Mississippi. The town became a transportation hub for cotton growers and traders throughout central Mississippi. In 1865, McComb was among the first municipalities to be incorporated as a municipality in Mississippi Territory following the American Civil War. During Reconstruction, McComb was one of the most active communities in southern Mississippi within what became known as "The Delta." In 1875, McClomb voted to secede from Jackson County and become an independent municipality. However, this decision met with resistance from other Jackson County municipalities until it ultimately passed with majority support from residents. In 1898, when Jackson County joined Union States during the federal government's Reconstruction period, McCombsville became part of Jackson County proper instead of being annexed into Marshall County as proposed by some residents within that county who felt that their community would lose its independence if taken together with neighboring counties under Union State rule (the so-called "McComb conversion"). Since then, much has changed about McCombsville including numerous annexation attempts by other localities within Marshall County over time; however, all have been rejected by McCullomsville officials because they believe that their community would remain an integral part ofMarshallCounty even if it were annexed by another municipality.
Mccomb was founded by James Winchester in 1817. The town site was chosen because of the abundance of water resources, which made it a likely place to grow cotton. Winchester became an important figure in the development of Mississippi's cotton industry and is considered the founder of Mccomb. He also helped to create one of the state's first banks, the First National Bank of Mississippi.
