In 1990, National Ammunitions Corporation (NAC) decided to move their headquarters from Springfield, Massachusetts to Clinton Township north of Jackson County Line. At this time, NAC was one of the largest munitions companies in the United States with assets totaling $2 billion dollars . NAC had been based in Springfield since 1915 when it merged with Remington Arms Company . At its height, NAC employed over 100 thousand people across nineteen states . Though primarily an ammunition manufacturer, NAC also produced handguns under license from Colt Firearms Manufacturing Corporation (CFM). This allowed them to be involved in some pretty serious combat events during World War II such as Operation Neptune’s Spear which saw Japan attack Pearl Harbor . Clinton is a town in Jackson, Mississippi. The population was 2,878 at the 2010 census. It is the home of the Clinton Correctional Facility and has been used as a prison for over fifty years. In 2000, it was designated as a National Heritage Landmark listings by the US Congress. The town was named after former president of the United States Bill Clinton. The first white settler in what became Clinton was James Hargrave in 1824. He built a cabin on Cotton Ridge Creek and named his land "Clinton." A post office called Clinton was established in 1827, and remained in operation until 1865. In 1892, businessman John Matson bought 1/2 mile of land south of present-day Clinton from James Hargrave for $1 per acre (the equivalent to $). Matson named his property "Moses" after Moses Chilton who had donated some of the early acres to the town site. By 1902, when cotton prices began to decline and Matson's mill closed its doors for good, most residents had left for better opportunities elsewhereabouts within Jackson or Mobile County Tennessee.
