The town of Roseville was organized in 1858 from parts of what are now eastern Ramsey and west Bloomington counties. The first post office was established in 1859, and the first store opened in 1860. In 1870, a school was built and Roseville became a city. The economy of Roseville has been based on agriculture since its founding. One major industry has been transportation; trucking and railroads have transported goods to Roseville since its incorporation as a city. Roseville was founded in 1854 as a small town on the banks of the Mississippi River. The community grew rapidly due to its location within a fertile farming area and its access to water. By 1870, Roseville had become an important manufacturing center for goods entering the United States from Europe. The history of Roseville begins with two people: Elijah Morton and his wife Rebecca. Mrs. Morton came from a large family in Pennsylvania and she desired to live near water so she could fish; her husband agreed to help her out by moving their household goods from his home in Salem Township to what would become Roseville. In 1854, Elijah Morton obtained land west of present-day Roseville on which he built a log cabin known as "Morton's Mill." This milling operation became one of the largest in Minnesota and produced flour for local markets until it closed in 1907. In addition to flour production, Morton also operated a lumberyard and dockyard at the mill site during this time period. When construction began on Dakota Road (later called White Street) in 1862, many pioneers took advantage of this new route linking Minneapolis with Saint Paul via river steamboats. As traffic increased along Dakota Road, businesses such as groceries stores surrounding Main Street started opening up along the riverbanks north of present-day Union Depot – giving rise to what is now called North Park Place (named after Philadelphia merchant Jabez North Park). The first post office was established at what is now Aberdeen Avenue in 1865; by 1890 there were more than 20 businesses located along Aberdeen Avenue alone!growth continued apace throughout the mid 1800s thanks largely to new railroad infrastructure that connected Minneapolis with StPaul – making transportation easier for farmers who brought their produce southward through Chicago rather than driving downriver allthe way back home! 2nd Ward Alderman John Sievek included business districts east &west side when he created 2nd Ward Plan which later became law

The first permanent settlers in Roseville were a group of Dutch farmers who arrived in 1797. The town was founded on the site of a old Indian trading post, and was named after Captain John Rose of the United States navy. The town grew rapidly, and by 1824 it had reached its present size. By 1857, Roseville had become one of the largest towns in Minnesota. It experienced rapid growth during the years leading up to World War I, and by 1939 it had reached its current population of over 100,000 people. During World War II,Roseville played an important role as a military airfield.
