"Mount Pleasant" likely derived from "moultrie" – meaning "a place where wild game is killed." This location may have been named after Christopher Moultrie (1725-1802), an American naturalist who collected plants near present day Mount Pleasant Village along with his brother James Moultrie (1751-1838). In 1796 Moultrie purchased 640 acres (253 hectares) east of present day Mountpleasant village from John Dickinson for $2,500 cash plus 15 Negroes as slaves; this purchase allowed him to settle landowning families there permanently and provide them with food security while they developed their settlement methodsologies - something that had been difficult for Native Americans living withinMuskegon County boundaries since prehistory

Mount Pleasant is a small town located in the Sanilac County seat of Plymouth, Michigan. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskegon Heights micropolitan statistical area. Mount Pleasant is named for General John Dearborn and was platted in 1824 by him and his brother-in-law, Dr. Ziegler. The first settler arrived in 1825 and there were only 10 people living in what is now Mount Pleasant when Dearborn made his famous speech to the Michigan legislature on January 12th that year extolling the virtues of Upper Peninsula land that he had acquired from Chief Joseph Chippewa for $5,000 or $10 per acre (at that time). Dearborn's speech created excitement throughout the state as settlers discovered new lands to farm and explore. By 1830, Mount Pleasant had a store, schoolhouse and two homes. The community rapidly grew with white residents moving into log houses built on large lots before 1840 which are still standing today within walking distance of each other. The first post office opened in 1827 and soon became an important center for trade with other settlements along the St Marys River valley. In 1842, local farmers formed a cooperative to raiseleans corn which they used to feed their livestock during winter months until railroads arrived in nearby Detroit; this led to increased trade between Mount Pleasant and other villages along the Michigan Central Railroad Line as well as industry growing up around what would become known as Ford's Factory Park northwest of town; this area also contains some of Mount Pleasant's oldest residences including one dating back to 1796 called "Haven".
