Lynn, Massachusetts is a small town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boston metropolitan area. The first mention of Lynn comes from the writings of John Winthrop in 1629. He noted that there were "a few good meadowes and well-wooded places" in what is now Lynn. In 1636, the General Court granted a patent to Nicholas West for 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of land near present day Marblehead and Lynn. The grant included rights to fish and hunt in the river below as well as on "the great woodyest parts" around present day Lynn. In 1753, during King George II's War with France, many people left for Worcester or other settlements in Massachusetts because of wartime shortages of food and clothing. Many men found work buildingforts for British troops stationed at Fort Taunton in Lynn. Other men worked on farms or construction projects nearby while others built homes hereabouts. In 1827, Colonel Nathaniel Parker bought 640 acres (240 hectares) surrounding present day Lynn from Nicholas West for $15 per acre (€10 per hectare). This became known as Parker's Valley after him and his heirs purchased additional land between 1837 and 1839 which added another 340 acres (120 hectares) to the total parcel . The following year saw a major road Improvements Act passed by Congress which authorized payment for roads purpose only; no money ever went towards building houses or schools! In answer to this situation, President James Kieft issued an Executive Order dated March 8th 1840 designating certain parcels within Parkers Valley as School Lands - these lands would eventually house most of today’s students at Leverett School Academy & River Road Middle School! To this date it remains one of America’s earliest school districts! By 1850virtually all residents had moved away leaving behind their rural heritage with its dispersed rural villages characterized by longitudinally spaced farmsteads surrounded by large forests/woods visible from anywhere within easy driving distance... Today much less than 10% remain living within walking distance either directly or via Route 9 extending NW from town center
Lynn was first settled in 1638 by Puritans. The town was named after Lynn, England, where the Pilgrims had come as pilgrims in 1630. In 1785, Lynn began to be called a city and it became an important center for American textile production. In 1861, it became the capital of Massachusetts.
