Lebanon, Indiana is a town in Porter County, Indiana and home to the Lebanon Consolidated School District. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis–Carmel–Anderson Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1814, an American military post called Fort Dearborn was established in what is now Lebanon by General Wayne as part of the Northwest Indian War against Great Britain. In 1838, when Lebanon become a county seat, it annexed parts of Porter County including present-day Lafayette. The first school in Lebanon was on the Knox-Lafayette Road (later State Road 9) that ran through today's town center. In 1855, there were only six students in rural Lebanon attending school with twenty-four residents attending high school in Lafayette. By 1860 there were over one hundred students and thirty-six residents attend High School while also serving as teachers and mechanics for a total of fifty-eight years before being replaced by consolidated schools which continued until 1954 when Beirut Township took over all education functions within its boundaries from its citizens through their township trustees who then formed a Board of Education which operated Schools 1 & 3 until 1955 when all three schools were combined into one new consolidated school district under name "Lebanon Consolidated School District"

Lebanon, Indiana was founded on December 5th, 1824. The town was named after the biblical city of Beirut. The first post office in Lebanon was established on July 26th, 1830. In 1836, the town had a population of only 100 people. However, it grew rapidly due to the influx of settlers from adjacent counties and the opening of a canal that connected Lebanon to the larger body of water known as the Wabash River. By 1840, Lebanon had a population of 1,200 people and by 1850 it had grown to 3,000 people. It remained an agricultural community until well into the 20th century; however, with increased education and industry developing in nearby cities such as Terre Haute and Lafayette-on-the-Wabash, Lebanese villages gradually lost their significance.
