In 1916 he ran for election as Cook County treasurer but lost to Democrat James Meeks by about 2,000 votes out of over 1 million cast that year In 1924 Drury Hwyeler died suddenly at the age of 92 after many years serving as village president When Hiram Wigglesworth died five years earlier he bequeathed $1 million dollars to the village which has been used for various purposes such as building roads, town hall expansion and other infrastructure projects throughout the years including a new library branch opened in 2009 During World War II there were more than 100 businesses within one mile (1 km) of where Park Ridge now stands due largely to open warfare during that time which resulted in high demand for food products from nearbyChicago .
