The city has been a center of holster production since 1869, when Black & Decker began making holsters for handguns in what was then a small town on the Fox River. Over time, Joliet’s production facility evolved into one of the leading holster producers in the world. Black & Decker Holsters traces its origins to 1869 when brothers Amos and Harry Black started manufacturing pistols at their family business, Black & Decker. From their first product line consisting of single-action revolvers and shotguns, they quickly added holsters to their portfolio. In 1892 they introduced a new line of fully automatic handguns that became known as the Browning Automatic Pistol (BAP). The BAP was America’s first polymer-framed handgun and remains one of the most popular handguns ever made. In 1906 Black & Decker created an innovative new design for handguns called the Double Action Army (DAA). This pistol featured two hammer springs which allowed users to fire two rounds simultaneously from either hand without having to take off your grip to reload! The DAA was extremely successful and helped usher in what would become known as “the age of Firearmsownership”. By 1913 White City Arms had acquired Black & Decker Holster productions facilities in Joliet and began producing all types of firearms including revolvers, shotguns, pistols and rifles under license from other manufacturers including Colt American Corporation, Winchester Repeating Company, Remington Arms Company etc.. White City Arms produced some truly iconic products during this era such as the Model 1903 Springfield Rifle which saw widespread military use during World War I; as well as later models like the Model 1911A1 Carbine which became America’s standard sidearm throughout World War II. During World War II White City arms produced ammunition for both United States Armed Forces (USAF) and Japanese Imperial Army (JIA) forces; however it is their legacy with rifle manufacture that will be most remembered. White City Arms logos are still seen today on many top level rifle manufacturers worldwide!

In 1905, Druryville was incorporated adjacent to Joliet; it had a population of about 80 people at that time. In 1915 another annexation took place when Westmont became part of Joliot City; its population then stood at 350 people. During World War I (1914-18), over 1,500 soldiers from Joliot City served in various branches of service throughout Illiniwek including artillery batteries under General John Jumper On November 11th 1938 two fires destroyed much of downtown Joliet destroying more than 400 businesses before being put out by firefighters; this event has been called "the Great Chicago Fire". The fire also left many buildings without roofs or windows due to water damage which continued through wintertime.; This disaster marked the beginning of an era where many new homes were built using clapboardedar rather than brick because Of costs associated with reconstruction following such disasters like those mentioned above
