On July 1st, 1925, black residents were finally given full voting rights when they became part of the city government through an ordinance passed by the Atlanta Constitution Convention despite opposition from some white citizens who saw this as giving black people control over too much of their community. Today, Thomasville is a small but vibrant community with a population of about 3500 residents and is home to many businesses and cultural events such as art exhibitions and music festivals
Thomasville was founded in 1836 by Captain James Dunbar. The town's first post office was established in 1837. In 1865, the city of Thomasville became an independent municipality.
