As cotton prices increased during the Civil War, many farmers turned to production of this crop instead of slave labor for their crops. This led to increased crime rates and housing shortages due to high demand for labor from these new cotton farmers while also causing a decrease in population growth throughout most of Fulton County during this time period In 1865–1867, General Nathan Bedford Forrest conducted a raid into central Fulton County that destroyed several homes and businesses along with two dozen slaves before being driven off by Confederate forces under General Robert Ewell ensuing white rioting across much of southcentral Georgia caused $2 million worth damage including $100 thousand dollars worth of property damage done to businesses within three blocks radius around central business district . In response to this violence, Governor John A Mason issued Order No 2145 dated December 12th 1865 authorizing Captain Samuel Suggs (of Company D United States Colored Troops) commanding company F1st Georgia Infantry Regiment consisting mostly black men serving out their terms within State limits under terms that they must not resist any military drill or duty whatever being ordered them save upon positive commandment from officer commanding regiment no matter what color they are “It shall be lawful for any white man who owns land appurtenant thereto or lives therein peaceably to come into said service without once offering resistance” This order helped create segregationist sentiment within Confederate units throughout southcentral Georgia as well as contributing significantly to slow down troop recruitment and deployment efforts leading up toAtlanta Campaign For years after Union troops retreated from Atlanta on September 16th 1898 following days-long combat inside city limits - most black Georgians living east/southwest OF downtown Fulton Countysite remained behind awaiting deliveryof freedmen's families through group various transportation projects classified variously at Vaughan Plantation near Decatur Stairs leading up TO old railroad bridge over Chattahoochee River - all conducted secretly under watch & secrecy by Federal Officers responsible for Negroes generally residing therein

In 1814, Colonel John Milledge bought some additional land from Oglethorpe and set about building a courthouse which became known as Judge Gadsden's Court House. The first post office was established in Cedartown on Pine Street in 1827. In 1865, Confederate General Jubal Early invaded Georgia with an army numbering more than 120,000 men and women seeking refuge from capture by Union forces under Abraham Lincoln within the Confederacy.
