During World War II (1939-1945), Superior played an important role in the war effort by providing food for troops stationed throughout Europe. In 1945, when peace returned to Europe, Superior's economy struggled but slowly recovered thanks to tourism that began booming during that time period. Today, Superior is still considered one of Coloradoland's most vibrant communities thanks to its rich history and traditions
Superior, Colorado was founded in 1876 by John Atwood and James H. White. The town was named for the high mountain range that bisects its territory. The first post office was opened in 1877.
