From then until 1959 when it became a city, Norco was home to many successful businessmen including Don Kappes who ran the post office for thirty years, Edward Ahern who operated two grocery stores for twenty-five years, Bill Wiegandt who ran one of the largest paper mills in California for twenty-five years, Jack Sievers who managed one of the biggest land companies in Kern County for fifty years and John Pritchett Jr., Sr., manager of ABC Radio until his death in 2006. It was also during this time that NORCO become known as "the birthplace of rock 'n' roll." One important figure responsible for this development was Tom Petty whose father lived three miles from NORCO and helped him learn how to play guitar at age six while working at Jiffy Lube

The history of Norco can be traced back to 1853 when John Sutter purchased Rancho San Rafael which encompassed present day Norco and parts of Carlsbad Caverns National Park. The rancho was used as an agricultural center with crops such as wheat, barley, oats, and cotton being grown. By 1912, other businesses had come up including a store, hotel, bakery and bottling plant. At this time there were only about 10 people living in Noroco with many working at these businesses or farming colonists in nearby towns such as Carlsbad Caverns National Park or by outside contractors such as mining companies looking to set up shop in what would become one of America's most profitable regions for agriculture during this period. In 1926, newly elected Mayor Harry Baughman petitioned for incorporation into the City of Sacramento due to the high population growth rates seen throughout central California at this time (during World War II). On November 6th 1925 voters approved incorporation with Mayor Baughman serving as mayor from 1926 until his death on May 14th 1957. During Mayor Baughman's term public works projects were completed such as new streetlights within town limits along with several bridges over local waterways like El Nido Creek that connected East County to West County through Orinda Lake while also completing major infrastructure projects like new water towers near downtown Norrisville that replaced older wooden ones dating back to 1878! Additionally during this timeNorco hosted numerous civic events including a parade on December 3rd 1928 which featured marching bands from various surrounding cities before ending at City Hall; two weeks later they held their first stockholders meeting where they adopted their first constitution and created their first boardOfDirectors! During World War II many residents chose not to evacuate because they thought minimal damage could be done within their homes should hostilities break out; however some did leave including Mayor Baughman who left behind his wife Ethel who led efforts inside city limits to maintain order should hostilities erupt In 1945 following Japan's surrender Japanese forces burned all but six houses within town limits resulting in severe damage which still stands todaymostly due to vandalism although some restoration work has taken place over the years It wasn't until 1986 that any full renovation took place once again restoring much needed property Damage caused by fire remains extensive today but fortunately recent efforts have managed to bring much needed life back into many neighborhoods
Norco was founded in 1887 by Lewis and Clark California miners. The town began as a small mining camp called Norcross, about 12 miles south of today's town of Salinas. In 1927, the town became an incorporated municipality under the name of Norco.
