And so began what would become one of the most successful mining towns in America - Highland grew rapidly with prospectors coming from all over the country to find goldfields. In 1861, General John Woolridge established military headquarters here after his victory at Bear River Bridge over the Sacramento River during the American Civil War. This led to another boom time for health care here as soldiers brought along their medical supplies with them when they left for battle or missions overseas. By 1870 there were more than 200 houses here and businesses such as a dry goods store, millinery shop and blacksmith shop had cropped up around town center including today's Artesia Plaza Shopping Center on North Main Street between Union Avenue (now I-215) and Sierra Avenue (now SR-101). The post office was moved from its original location northeast of town to this site in 1875 due to growth concerns about relocated mail facilities being closer to populated areas back then than they are now! In 1922 local high school students formed their own organization called "The Wildcats" which still exists today as their own booster club; dynamics that continue into today's day with some students running for elected office while others stay involved with student government through clubs like PTA/Athletic Association etcetera! In 1954 Highland Girls' High School graduated its first class; giving girls access then unavailable elsewhere to college level education that would help leadto later careers such as law enforcement officer etcetera! Highland, California is a small town located in the Southeastern corner of San Diego County. It was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1853 and has been an agricultural community since its founding. The town’s economy is based on agriculture and ranching, but it also has a significant population of retirees, as well as people from other parts of the United States who visit Highland for tourism reasons. The first settlers to Highland were men from Northern Ireland who arrived in 1853. They built a log cabin on the west side of Big Playa Creek and began farming the land that now makes up Highland. In 1865, a group of Americans traveled down Big Playa Creek to find a route between San Diego and Mexicali. They found the creek too wide for wagon travel so they decided to build a road instead. The first street in Highland was called Indian Wells Road because it connected Indian Wells with Rancho El Cajon on the east side of Big Playa Creek. Highland became part of San Diego County when it was established as part of Mexican territory in 1821. This means that it has experienced many different waves of immigrants over time – including Anglo-Americans, Mexicans, Japanese Americans, Chinese Americans and Native American groups – all trying to make their way into what is now known as Southern California. Today, there are more than 100 Scottish-Irish residents living in Highlandtown; most come from Eastern Scotland or Northern Ireland but some also come from Scotland proper. There are also sizable numbers of British expats living hereabouts; these include retired military personnel and their families as well as students studying abroad at various universities across Southern California (and sometimes beyond).
In 1848, the first school was opened in Highland. In 1863, the district created a high school to serve the area. The first superintendent of schools was William B. Howe. Highland High School graduated its first class in 1872 and joined the California State League of Education in 1903.
