Baldwin Park is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 149,818 at the 2010 census. It is the county's second-most populous city after Los Angeles. The history of Baldwin Park can be traced back to 1887 when it was named for J.M. Baldwin, a real estate developer and politician from San Bernardino County who donated land to the town site. In 1912, Baldwin Park became part of the City of Los Angeles and its namesake disappeared from local memory until 1987 when he donated $10 million to establish the Jacquelyn Siegel Baldwin Foundation in her honor which continues to support education and community programs in Baldwin Park. In 1923, during Prohibition era, two men by the name of Stanley Aitken and Al Neuman opened the first beer restaurant in Los Angeles County - Stanley's Bar & Grill on Airport Boulevard in what is now Baldwin Park. At that time it was one of only a few places that could serve both alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks! The popularity of this business led to Stanley's becoming an early advocate for prohibition repeal efforts throughout Southern California as well as national attention (and money) for his cause. In 1951, TWA Airlines purchased Stanley's Bar & Grill from its original owners and began serving passengers through their new terminal located at Lankershim Boulevard/North Hollywood Road in south west Los Angeles – all without having to wait in line! In 1968, it became part of the newly created City of Pasadena. Since then, Baldwin Park has seen rapid growth with several thousand new residents moving into the area every year.
